This essay contest requires students under the age of 18 as of December 31st of the current school year who have not yet graduated from high school or the equivalent to compose a 700 to 800-word essay around a central idea. The contest is designed to develop writing and critical thinking skills. One scholarship of $2,500 per District is awarded by Optimist International each year.
The Optimist Essay Contest is designed to develop writing and critical thinking skills. Our Club winners receive $150, $125 and $100 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The winning essay will go on to compete in the District Contest for a $2,500 scholarship awarded by Optimist International each year. The topic for the 2018 year is “Can Society Function Without Respect?”
